Symetra Tour acquires four casino sponsors for 201422 May 2014(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Symetra Tour – official Qualifying Tour for the LPGA – has acquired four casino title sponsored events for the 2014 season, tripling their number of casino partnerships in the past three years. Since the Island Resort & Casino in Harris, Michigan first became a title sponsor and host in 2010, the Symetra Tour has encouraged other Native American gaming facilities to follow suit. The Island Resort & Casino has already committed to another three years hosting the Symetra Tour due to the positive community involvement and strong volunteer program. “We are continuing our partnership with the Symetra Tour because we’ve seen a definite increase in the visibility and use of our golf course in the region,” said Tony Mancilla, Event Co-Chair and Attorney for the Hannahville Band of the Potawatomi Nation – owners and operators of the Island Resort & Casino. “This tournament became the highlight of the golf season.” Hosting or title-sponsoring a Symetra Tour event is comparable in funds to bringing in a concert, but has the added benefit of more publicity, community goodwill and charitable influence at an incredible value. Casinos can use the opportunity to play alongside the next generation of LPGA stars in the pro-am tournament as a means of building relationships with top players and local key figures. The corporate sector is also allowed to buy into the event, helping to build relationships in all corners of the community. In addition to the Island Resort & Casino, the other Native American-owned casino and resort properties playing host to the Symetra Tour for the 2014 season include Battle Creek Country Club in Battle Creek, Michigan, Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Indiana and Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kansas. These four existing casinos have banded together for the Potawatomi Cup Playoff, a four event competition and points race that awards $40,000 to players based on participation and performance. The Potawatomi Cup Playoffs will begin June 6-8 with the inaugural Firekeepers Hotel and Casino Classic and continue through the summer at the Four Winds Invitational (June 20-22), Island Resort Championship (June 27-29) and Prairie Band Casino and Resort Charity Classic (Sept. 5-7). The Symetra Tour is entering its 34th competitive season. The mission of the Tour is to prepare the best young women professional golfers for a successful career on the LPGA Tour. The top-10 money winners each season earn memberships on the LPGA Tour for the following season. The Symetra Tour is the most established women’s developmental tour in the world.
