Survey: Delaware Slots Expansion Not Popular

DELAWARE – As reported by the Delmarva Now: "A recent survey conducted by Rep. Gerald Hocker (R-38th District) and distributed to residents by mail reveals some interesting results of how southeastern Sussex County residents feel about issues related to gambling, marriage and medicine.

"At his own expense, Hocker recently printed and mailed a survey to every household in the 38th District.

"…Among the 1,346 respondents, proposals to expand slot machine gambling beyond Harrington Raceway, Dover Downs and Delaware Park did not find much support. Even if Maryland were to legalize slot machines, 54 percent of those responding to the survey said they would not like to see the "one-armed bandits" at additional venues in the First State. Nearly 8 out of 10 (77 percent) said they would oppose expanding gaming, even if a portion of the proceeds were earmarked to help the horse-racing industry…"
