Supreme Court Justices Order New Trial in Mirage Case

CARSON CITY, Nevada -- Jan. 30, 2001 -- As reported by the Associated Press: "The Supreme Court has ordered a new trial over a $5.8 million jury award against The Mirage because a district judge didn't let two jurors help determine the award.

"...The new trial might pertain only to the amount of damages that should be awarded Joseph Canterino because the Supreme Court found the Las Vegas Strip megaresort is liable in the case.

"Canterino was a New York dockworker who was beaten and robbed of $100,000 by two strangers while walking in a Mirage hallway in 1992.

"...In the Monday decision, the Supreme Court ruled all jurors should have participated in the deliberations on the amount of the award..."
