Super casino concerns rejected22 March 2007MANCHESTER, England – As reported by the Manchester Evening News: "Senior Manchester politicians have rejected concerns raised in the House of Lords about the city's winning supercasino bid. "An influential committee of peers highlighted the fact the council would be unable to guarantee that the casino would be built in its preferred site in Sportcity, East Manchester. "But in a joint statement, Labour MPs Tony Lloyd (Manchester Central) and Graham Stringer (Manchester Blackley), along with council leader Sir Richard Leese, said the same restriction would have applied whichever town or city had been chosen. "…Senior council sources in Manchester have made clear privately they consider it highly unlikely a bid to build the casino in another part of the city would have any chance of winning since regeneration potential will be a key criteria in the selection process…" |
