Sun Devil Athletics partners with Gila Rivers Hotels & Casinos22 August 2018(PRESS RELEASE) -- Sun Devil Athletics announced on Tuesday a groundbreaking new partnership with Gila River Hotels & Casinos, which operates three Arizona hotel and casino properties owned by the Gila River Indian Community including Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino, Lone Butte Casino and Vee Quiva Hotel and Casino. This new partnership begins in August 2018. The five-year agreement delivers incredible value to the university by investing in Arizona State’s Division I athletics while also providing scholarship opportunities for Gila River Indian Community members, as well as Gila River Hotels & Casinos’ team members. The partnership is the first of its kind to support all of Sun Devil Athletics’ programs, including both male and female sports, while also granting scholarships and educational assistance to current and future students. “The entire team at Gila River Hotels & Casinos and I are proud to announce our partnership with Sun Devil Athletics,” said Kenneth Manuel, Chief Executive Officer of Gila River Hotels & Casinos. “We have an amazing track record of partnering with Arizona’s best sports teams, and we are thrilled to have an amazing force in collegiate sports like Arizona State University as one of our valued partners. This partnership will not only allow us to support Sun Devil Athletics, but also gives us the opportunity to give back to the Gila River Indian Community with ASU’s educational resources.” The partnership provides Gila River Hotels & Casinos the opportunity to connect with all 26 varsity sports and their fans through game promotions for each sport, which includes fan giveaways, additional logo inclusion, PA announcements and other media advertising. Gila River Hotels & Casinos will also display signage in all athletic venues in addition to more traditional exposure such as print and radio assets. Gila River Hotels & Casinos will be involved in the Pac-12 Networks television programming, which includes football, men’s basketball and live Olympic sport coverage. The partnership also includes Sun Devil Stadium’s new Southeast Plaza Entrance naming. “This partnership is unique in that Gila River Hotels & Casinos and Sun Devil Athletics are investing in each other, which will positively impact all of our programs,” said Sun Devil Athletics’ Chief Business Development Officer Gabe Cagwin. “Additionally, our ability to provide educational opportunities on top of athletic assets makes this a first-of-its-kind partnership for Sun Devil Athletics.” In an effort to engage the Gila River Indian Community, youth athletic and academic clinics will be hosted to help shape and prepare young tribal members with the idea of attending college. These clinics will feature Sun Devil student-athletes and coaches talking and interacting with the youth not only on their respective sports, but also the student side of the student-athlete experience. |
