Sumner County begins planning casino

KANSAS -- As reported by the Ark City Traveler: "As Sumner County prepares for casino construction on the heels of the recent anti-casino vote in Sedgwick County, the decision still needs to be made about where to build it. The county will be distributing requests for proposals (RFP), and developers are looking around at the pros and cons of each place.

"'Anywhere in the county is open to the developers,' said Janis Hellard, Sumner County Economic Development Commission director.

"...Each of the communities in Sumner County is getting a chance to look at a resolution that is basically a request for proposals, said Hellard.

"...The casino proposals are due to the county commission, or a city if the location is within city limits, by Oct. 9. The county will endorse proposals that meet their criteria on Oct. 17, after hearing formal presentations by the developers. The commission will then submit the proposals to the Kansas..."
