SugarHouse Casino makes annual $1 million contribution to Penn Treaty SSD8 November 2017(PRESS RELEASE) -- On Wednesday, 1 November, SugarHouse Casino presented its annual $1 million contribution to the Penn Treaty Special Services District (Penn Treaty SSD) at the first-ever Penn Treaty SSD Community Service Awards. Since 2009, Penn Treaty SSD has received a yearly contribution from SugarHouse Casino and, through grants, distributes the money to benefit residents of Olde Richmond, Fishtown, South Kensington and Northern Liberties. The Penn Treaty SSD uses the casino funds to sponsor community activities, make physical improvements to parks and other infrastructure and to financially assist deserving local organizations. This year's $1 million check brings SugarHouse's total contribution to Penn Treaty SSD to $5.7 million. "The Penn Treaty Special Services District does a tremendous job at making a better community for us all," said Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse Casino. "SugarHouse is proud to partner with such a wonderful organization." At the check presentation ceremony, Penn Treaty SSD honored four individuals for their outstanding service benefitting the neighborhoods surrounding the casino. The evening's honorees were Don Gould, president of the Olde Richmond Civic Association; Janet Finegar, board member of the Northern Liberties Neighbors Association; A.J. Thomson, president of the Friends of Penn Treaty Park; and Paul Maiello, an active volunteer for the South Kensington Community Partners. "We're proud to recognize and congratulate the award winners who have played an integral role in improving our communities," said Penn Treaty SSD board chairman Rick Angeli. "Their dedication, along with SugarHouse's continued support and generosity, makes this all possible." In addition to their years of service, honorees were recognized for neighborhood security provisions, improvements to Penn Treaty Park and for enhancing area parks. They also each received a citation from Mayor Jim Kenney's office thanking them for their dedication. |
