SugarHouse Casino makes $1 million community contribution21 October 2016(PRESS RELEASE) -- The all-new bigger, better SugarHouse continues its commitment to Philadelphia and the communities surrounding the casino with its annual contribution of $1 million to the Penn Treaty Special Services District (PTSSD). SugarHouse has now contributed $4.7 million to the PTSSD since the casino opened in 2010. "Without SugarHouse's annual contribution of $1 million, it wouldn't be possible to help as many people as we do through the PTSSD," said Rick Angeli, PTSSD board chairman. "We look forward to making many more grants available to organizations in Fishtown and the other neighborhoods that surround the casino." SugarHouse's annual contribution is used by the PTSSD to sponsor community activities, make physical improvements to parks and other infrastructures and to grant sponsorship for local organizations. Kensington Soccer Club, Friends of Penn Treaty Park, Northern Liberties Neighbors Association and St. Anne's Church are just some of the groups that have benefited from the partnership between the casino and the PTSSD over the last year. The PTSSD, incorporated in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) community-based organization that works to enhance the quality of life for residents in the neighborhoods immediately surrounding the casino, including Fishtown, South Kensington, Old Richmond and Northern Liberties. The grants make these neighborhoods better places to live by funding causes and groups that strengthen the community. "SugarHouse's commitment to the PTSSD allows us to support these great neighborhoods that we partner with every day," said Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse Casino. "We strongly believe that what’s good for Philadelphia is good for SugarHouse, and the PTSSD helps us live up to our promise to our neighbors." Since opening, SugarHouse has generated approximately $706 million in tax revenue for the City and Commonwealth, which includes revenue for the School District of Philadelphia. SugarHouse increased its annual PTSSD donation from $500,000 to $1 million dollars in 2015 in advance of the casino's $164 million expansion, which was unveiled in May.
