Study: Two Casino Options for Victoria

VICTORIA, British Columbia – As reported by the Victoria News: "A KPMG market study of gaming opportunities in the Capital Region identifies two options for bringing a casino to Victoria, including one that would see View Royal's casino closed to make way for a larger and more profitable casino on the downtown waterfront.

"The report estimates that the Capital Region can generate $95 million in gross revenues each year. View Royal, the region's only full-service casino, generates about $60 million in annual gross revenues.

"B.C. Lottery Corporation released the report Friday, more than a month after Traveller's Inn owner John Asfar unveiled a casino proposal for Queen's Avenue between Douglas and Blanshard streets.

"…The other option for Victoria, according to the report, would be to maintain View Royal's casino and build a second gaming facility downtown.

"But that scenario would generate $83.3 million annually, compared to $92.2 million for the Victoria-only option…"
