Study: New Mexico Casino Could Have Negative Impact

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – As reported by the Associated Press: "A proposed casino in southern New Mexico could have a negative impact on Dona Ana County's economy, according to a new study.

"The report by a New Mexico State University associate professor said the county could experience a $1.75 million loss in gross receipts tax revenue because the casino most likely wouldn't bring new money into the local economy and would be exempt from local taxes.

"…The study released Tuesday was funded by Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino, which could lose business and money to the new competition…"
