Study: Milwaukee, Kenosha Casinos Can Both Succeed

WISCONSIN – As reported by the Milwaukee Business Journal: "Development of an Indian casino in Kenosha would have no detrimental impact on an expanded Potawatomi Bingo Casino in Milwaukee and both casinos could successfully co-exist in southeast Wisconsin, a new study claims.

"That finding comes in a report commissioned by the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin, which last year proposed an $808 million casino, hotel and entertainment development at the Dairyland Greyhound Park site.

"The study clashes with a report released in March that determined that Milwaukee would lose 2,000 existing jobs if the proposed casino is built in Kenosha. That study was sponsored by local community and business groups, including the Forest County Potawatomi Community.

"…The Forest County Potawatomi released a statement Wednesday reiterating that message, saying that the massive Kenosha development would choke off the flow of Chicago-area tourism dollars into Milwaukee.

"…The latest economic analysis report, conducted by the accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers, said a casino in Kenosha and an expanded Milwaukee casino would result in triple the number of jobs, wages and overall economic impact as the current Potawatomi casino.

"An expanded Milwaukee casino could nearly double its gaming revenue -- even with a competing Kenosha casino -- to an average of $431 million a year during a five-year period starting June 2007, a year after the first phase of the Menominee casino is built. That compares with annual revenue of $244 million at Potawatomi's current size…"
