Study: looks at Conneticut tribal casinos' effect

CONNECTICUT -- As reported by the Hartford Courant: "The Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos create one additional job in the Connecticut economy for every three people who work at the giant gambling resorts, a report scheduled to be released today shows.

"With combined employment at about 22,000 at the casinos, that means about 7,000 indirect jobs, according to the report by the Connecticut Economic Resource Center, a nonprofit group based in Rocky Hill. The figure is lower than some previous studies have shown.

"The report, a comprehensive look at the economic impact the casinos have on the state, will be released today at the Native American Economic Impact Summit in Hartford.

"...Massive expansion projects underway at both casinos will create about 1,750 construction jobs and another 1,750 jobs indirectly in Connecticut through 2010, the report estimates. In that time, the casinos are expected to spend $1.5 billion on the expansions..."
