Study: Gambling Problems Revealed in Kentucky

KENTUCKY – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "More than half of all Kentucky adults gambled within the past year and 12% of Kentuckians could be at risk for developing acute gambling problems, according to a 120-page gambling study prepared by the Kentucky Legislative Research Commission.

"The study was gleaned from the findings of three sources, including 1,253 responses from telephone interviews last June, 55 Gamblers Anonymous members, and a survey of substance abuse consellors.

"…Based on study findings, Kentucky has approximately 20,000 problem gamblers and 15,000 compulsive gamblers. At least 170,000 individuals were considered to have the capacity to become problem gamblers because they responded `yes' to a question that is used to detect problem gamblers by counselors…"
