Study: Casinos Could Hurt Alabama20 February 2004ALABAMA – As reported by the Montgomery Advertiser: "A move afoot to bring casino gambling to Alabama would put the state at risk for a wide range of social problems, a study by the Alabama Policy Institute claims. "Problems such as suicide, domestic violence, unemployment, crime and credit card debt for pathological gamblers would increase if gambling is legalized in the state, said API director of research John Hill, who released the results of his study 'Casinos in Alabama: Are they worth the gamble?' Wednesday. "…Rep. Alvin Holmes, DMontgomery, who introduced a gambling bill to the Legislature this month, said he supports gambling because he thinks it will keep money in the state. "…Johnny Leonard of Alexander City, who is in favor of gambling, said Alabama is losing out to states that have gambling and should use this opportunity to bring money into the state. "…Rep.
