Stuck Elevator Strands Guests at Borgata22 December 2003ATLANTIC CITY – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: `` Twelve people got stuck between floors on an elevator Sunday morning at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, and city firefighters had to cut a hole in a wall and run ladders into the elevator shaft to free them. ``Paul Shropshire, an acting battalion chief with the Atlantic City Fire Department, said the passengers included a woman who is about seven months pregnant. But she and all the other passengers, who were stuck on the car for about an hour, were calm, uninjured and refused treatment from ambulance crews. ``Shropshire said after firefighters found which elevator was stuck, they cut a hole through a wall, including metal studs, and reached the top of the elevator car. They then opened a hatch built into the top, lowered a ladder into it, and led the passengers off the elevator and through the walls to safety via another ladder. ``…The passengers used the emergency phone in the elevator to report that they were stuck, and an Atlantic City police officer stayed on the phone with them from the start to keep them calm, Shropshire said…" |
