Stratosphere Thrill Ride Delayed Another Month

12 April 2002

LAS VEGAS – As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal: “The Stratosphere will wait another month for a verdict from the Las Vegas Planning Commission on a controversial roller coaster that nearby residents believe will hurt the quality of life in their neighborhoods.

”Commissioners unanimously voted to delay consideration of a site development plan for the 510-foot-tall thrill ride, which would carry riders down the east side of the hotel's tower, across Las Vegas Boulevard and up a 325-foot tower.

”…Planning Commission Chairman Craig Galati said he supported the delay because he wanted to give Stratosphere officials an opportunity to give a full presentation on the project, including noise and traffic studies that were not made available when a similar proposal was rejected last year.

”…The residents objected to the delay, saying they already had waited too long for a resolution of the issue.”
