Stein wins PLO title at WSOP, claims $420,80220 June 2011Sam Stein, a 23-year-old pot-limit Omaha specialist, won the $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event at the World Series of Poker, claiming $420,802 in prize money and his first WSOP bracelet. Stein beat out 684 competitors, just two weeks after finishing third in this year’s $10,000 Pot Limit Hold'em World Championship. Just past the halfway mark of this year’s WSOP, Stein has amassed nearly $700,000 in overall tournament winnings. Not bad for two weeks of “work.” Stein, a native of Hidden Hills, Calif., now lives in Henderson, Nev. He has been playing poker for the past three years. Aside from impressive accomplishments at this year’s WSOP, Stein has cashed in several other big tournaments. His first recorded live tournament cash took place in July 2009. Since that time, he has won more than $2.8 million in live tournaments, including $1.8 million so far this year. The runner up was Benjamin Lamb, from Las Vegas, who collected $259,918. Warren Fund of Myrtle Beach, S.C., was third for $184,368, and Christian Harder of Annapolis, Md., was fourth for $132,623 Adam Junglen of Stow, Ohio, was fifth, and Zimnan Ziyard of Eastbourne, U.K., was sixth. Two-time gold bracelet winner Brock Parker, from Silver Spring, Md., was seventh. He won back-to-back WSOP titles in 2009 in the same game, which was Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em. Austin Scott of Norman, Okla., was eighth, and Dilyan Kovachev of Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, was ninth. The top 63 finishers collected prize money. Former gold bracelet winners who cashed in this tournament -- aside from Parker, included: Tex Barch (10th), Jeffrey Lisandro (35th), Joe Hachem (50th) and Dan Heimiller (63rd).
