Steely Dan announces nine-night residency at The Venetian

16 January 2017

(PRESS RELEASE) -- For the past several years, Dan fans on the West Coast haven't had the opportunity to catch the band's multi-night residencies, including the epic performances at NYC's Beacon Theatre. That's set to change this spring, as Steely Dan has announced a nine-night residency at the Opaline Theatre at The Venetian Las Vegas. Each and every night, Steely Dan will entrance audiences with a set of their classic songs and diverse selections from their extraordinary catalog, rich with infectious tunes, bodacious harmonies, irresistible grooves, blazing solo work, rich ensembles and sleek, subversive lyrics.

American Express card members can purchase advance tickets beginning 17 January at 10 a.m. PT through 19 January at 10 p.m. PT. Tickets will go on sale to the public on 20 January at 10 a.m. and can be purchased through Ticketmaster, The Venetian Box Office and charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are subject to applicable service charges, and event time and date are subject to change. For more information, visit the Steely Dan website.

Joining Steely Dan's Donald Fagen and Walter Becker on this residency in the "Entertainment Capital of the World" are the brilliant and acclaimed musicians who have famously supported them in recent years, including: Jon Herington (guitar), Keith Carlock (drums), Freddie Washington (bass), Jim Beard (keyboards), a four-piece horn section and three backup vocalists. Journalists have noted that one has to go back to the legendary big bands of a previous era to find a touring ensemble with the virtuosity, versatility and vise-like cohesion of the Steely Dan touring ensemble.

Led by Fagen and Becker since 1972, Steely Dan has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and helped define the soundtrack of the '70s with hits such as "Reelin' in the Years," "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," "F.M.," "Peg," "Hey Nineteen," "Deacon Blues," and "Babylon Sisters," from their seven platinum albums issued between 1972 and 1980 — including 1977's groundbreaking "Aja." Steely Dan reunited in the early '90s, launching a string of sold-out tours (that continue through today). In 2000 they released the multi-Grammy winning (including "Album of the Year") Two Against Nature, and released the acclaimed follow-up Everything Must Go in 2003. Steely Dan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

In the summer of 2016, Steely Dan took their "The Dan Who Knew Too Much" tour on the road with special guest Steve Winwood. In the fall, the band held another of their beloved Beacon Theatre residencies for 10 nights. Included among the high points of those extraordinary concerts were four nights with special guest Rickie Lee Jones, and the first time that Steely Dan performed 1973's Countdown to Ecstasy in its entirety.
