Station Casinos Buys Santa Fe Hotel & Casino in Northwest Las Vegas

13 June 2000

Station Casinos Inc., already the largest operator of Las Vegas casinos aimed at the "locals" market, announced today an agreement to buy the Santa Fe Hotel & Casino in northwest Las Vegas.

Station will pay $205 million for the Santa Fe, plus an option to buy 21 adjacent acres and a non-compete agreement with the seller, Santa Fe Gaming Corp. The all-cash deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter. Credit: Las Vegas Sun

The Santa Fe has 85,000 square feet of casino space, 200 hotel rooms, a 60-lane bowling alley and a regulation-sized ice skating arena. The name will be changed to Santa Fe Station.

Part of the purchase price will be a loan to Pioneer Hotel Inc., a subsidiary of Santa Fe Gaming that owns the Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall in Laughlin, Nevada. That subsidiary is in bankruptcy.

Station's first gaming operation was Palace Station Hotel & Casino. In recent years it's opened the Boulder Station Hotel & Casino, the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel and Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in Henderson, a rapidly growing suburb of Las Vegas. The company also bought Wild Wild West Gambling Hall & Hotel, a low-end casino near the Strip.

In Missouri, Station operates a large hotel-casino in Kansas City and a casino in St. Charles, a suburb of St. Louis.
