Station Casino License On Hold

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Nov. 16, 2000 – As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal: “The North Las Vegas City Council voted 5-0 Wednesday night to postpone a decision on Station Casinos' application for gaming and liquor licenses at the Fiesta after a union official raised concerns about layoffs expected from the casino's pending sale.

”Councilwoman Stephanie Smith and Councilman William Robinson called for the postponement after Culinary Local 226 Staff Director D. Taylor said Fiesta workers would lose their jobs before Station Casinos completes its pending $185 million purchase of the Rancho Drive property.

”…The state Gaming Control Board recommended approval of the purchase last week, and the Nevada Gaming Commission is scheduled to consider the issue Monday.

”Smith also was concerned that there were no Station Casinos representatives at the meeting to answer council members' questions.

”…Station Casinos' $205 million purchase of the Santa Fe led to 900 lost jobs.

”…`There's no rhyme or reason why Station has to fire the entire Fiesta work force, especially around Christmastime,’ said Taylor, who attributed the gaming company's no-show to arrogance…”
