Station Casino gets City Council OK for Development

8 February 2001

LAS VEGAS – Feb. 8, 2001 –As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal: “Station Casinos will build next to Craig Ranch Golf Course in North Las Vegas

”Station Casinos will build a hotel-casino and movie theater next to a golf course after a unanimous vote late Wednesday by the North Las Vegas City Council.

”…As a condition of the council approving a zoning change from regional commercial to gaming enterprise at the new site, Station Casinos agreed not to build a casino on a site at Coralie Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard. That site already was approved for a casino.

”…Some residents pleaded with the council to put the casino at a third, undetermined site. Councilwoman Stephanie Smith said the council didn't have the option of voting for a third choice because Station Casinos already has the right to build at the Martin Luther King Boulevard site.

”…Deborah Lewis, spokeswoman for a group of citizens calling themselves the North Las Vegas Neighborhood Preservation Group, said she wasn't surprised by the council's decision.

”Lewis and her group collected some 300 signatures from residents who live within a half-mile of the Craig Ranch site -- all were opposed to a casino there…”
