State Representative Sees Casino at Lincoln Park

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – As reported by Pawtucket Times: "A full-blown casino at Lincoln Park, complete with blackjack and table games like roulette and craps?

"'Why not?' asks Pawtucket Rep. William San Bento.

"In fact, San Bento adds, he wouldn't mind seeing several casinos in Rhode Island -- at Lincoln, West Warwick, Newport, even Quonset Point, with its deep-water port, airport and other facilities that would make it easier for out-of state gamblers to come to Rhode Island and leave some of their money behind.

"…An unabashed supporter of legalized gambling, San Bento doesn't realistically expect to see dice rolling in any of those places anytime soon.

"…As far as that goes, San Bento questions whether voters statewide are prepared to vote for a casino anywhere in Rhode Island. The state constitution calls for a referendum that must pass both statewide and in the proposed host community before new gambling operations are established in the state or new types of gambling are introduced at existing facilities…"
