Star City casino plans criticized

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald: "Council planners have objected to Star City casino's plans to build a tall, slender hotel in Pyrmont, saying harbour views for guests should not override the impact on neighbours.

"An artist's impression of the structure is being circulated to community groups while the plans for the $140 million project are before the State Government. If approved, it would be the first five-star hotel to be built in Sydney for a decade.

"The City of Sydney is urging the Department of Planning to demand changes to the 66-metre structure that would have at least 300 rooms.

"…'The hotel building should be designed to be subservient to the massing of the casino buildings, given their dominance in the skyline, especially when viewed from the CBD,' [the assistant director of planning, Giovanni Cirillo]wrote…"
