St. Louis Casino Battle Escalates2 April 2004MISSOURI – As reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "The battle for lucrative casino licenses in the St. Louis market escalated Thursday as members of the Missouri Gaming Commission toured four potential sites to see how the developments would fit into the communities. "At the first stop, the former National Lead Industries site in Lemay, St. Louis County officials announced that a survey they commissioned showed that more than three-fourths of the area's residents supported Pinnacle Entertainment Inc.'s plan for a $300 million casino and entertainment complex there. "…At the next stop, near the Jefferson Barracks Bridge, representatives of Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. suggested that the company's 'Midwest values' were a better match for the market than Pinnacle's Las Vegas-style glitz. "…Harrah's Entertainment Inc. has a rival plan for a casino at the foot of the Jefferson Barracks Bridge. Riviera Holdings Corp. wants to build a casino near Barnhart in Jefferson County. "Floyd Bartch, chairman of the five-member Gaming Commission, said the panel hopes to authorize licenses for one or more casinos by the end of summer…" |
