Sri Lanka regulates gambling industry

12 November 2010

SRI LANKA -- Sri Lanka has passed a law to regulate gambling, the BBC reported.

The government is aiming to revive tourism following the example of countries like Singapore and Malaysia.

On foot of this bill the gambling industry will be regulated nationally as opposed to locally with the government controlling licences and able to set up gambling zones, the BBC report said.

There will be fines and jail sentences for those who do not possess the necessary paperwork to operate facilities, the BBC report noted.
