Spotlight 29 hosts salsa competition21 August 2007OACHELLA, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Thanks in part to TV's megahits "So You Think You Can Dance," and "Dancing with the Stars," a revival in ballroom dancing is sweeping the nation. And with its inherent flirtatious and sensuous style, there is nothing quite like the Salsa to spice up the dance floor. Now, couples from across Southern California are invited to Spotlight 29 Casino to compete in the 2nd Southern California Salsa Dance Championships. Starting September 13 and continuing for the next seven Thursday nights, Salsa dancers will be heating up the dance floor in Spotlight 29 Casino's Blue Bar. At stake weekly are fun prizes. First, second and third place winners receive tickets to a Spotlight 29 concert, dinner at Caf? Capitata for two and a Spotlight 29 Gift Bag. Second and third place winners qualify for a wild card spot for the finals. More importantly, the first place winners each week automatically qualify for the Salsa finals, staged in the Spotlight Showroom on Sunday, October 28, where dancers will be accompanied by Tito Puente, Jr. and his amazing 5-piece band. At the finals, the pair who out-dances, out-flashes and out-dazzles the competition will receive trophies, valuable prizes and the title of Southern California Salsa Dance Champions. Thursday night is always Salsa night in the Blue Bar, with Salsa music and dance lessons from 6-8 p.m. each week. Now adding to the weekly excitement, registration for the Salsa Dance Championships begins at 8 p.m. The competition is limited to only 20 couples per week. Dancers will be judged bases on choreography, accuracy, originality and stage presence. The Southern California Salsa Dance Championships are presented by Spotlight 29 Casino and Univision, which will be broadcasting live from the Blue Bar each Thursday night during the competition.
