Sports leagues file another Delaware appeal

WILMINGTON, Delaware -- As reported by USA Today: "The four major pro sports leagues and the NCAA asked the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday to stop Delaware from allowing sports betting while the court considers their appeal of a district judge's ruling in the case.

"It is the leagues' third significant filing with the appellate body this week as they seek to keep Delaware from initiating sports gambling Sept. 1.

"Lawyers representing the NFL, NHL, NBA, NCAA and Major League Baseball already have asked the appeals court to overturn District Judge Gregory M. Sleet's decision to deny a temporary injunction while their suit against Delaware proceeds. The leagues also have asked the court for expedited consideration. As a backup, the leagues' lawyers wrote in Wednesday's filing that an "injunction pending appeal is warranted to preserve the status quo...'"
