Sports Betting Proposed for Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "The chairman of the Assembly Budget Committee wants to bring sports betting to Atlantic City.

"But don't place your wagers just yet.

"Federal law limits sports betting to four states, and New Jersey is not one of them.

"Assembly Budget Committee Chairman Lou Greenwald, D-Camden, said he believes the law is unconstitutional, and he wants to force the federal government to prove otherwise in court.

"…New Jersey had the chance to approve sports betting in 1994, but the state Legislature failed to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot after opposition from professional sports leagues and U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley, D-N.J.

"…Also interested is Congressman Frank LoBiondo, R-2nd, who said he would strongly support a plan to bring sports betting to Atlantic City…"
