Spitzer Urged to Shut Turning Stone5 April 2005ALBANY, New York -- As reported by the Times-Union: "An Albany lawyer representing clients in central New York is calling for Attorney General Eliot Spitzer to shut down Turning Stone Casino. "In a letter, Cornelius Murray challenged Spitzer to be as aggressive about illegal gambling as he has been in pursuing other industries. The 12-year-old Turning Stone continues to operate illegally and the state's top lawyer should do something about it, he said. "The March 31 letter came two days after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that most of the Oneida Indian Nation's property in Oneida and Madison counties is not Indian land. The court also upheld the validity of the Oneida claim to some 250,000 acres the nation says the state wrongfully acquired 200 years ago.
