Sparks Casino on Hold2 November 2005NEVADA – As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "A new casino is being proposed for the northeast corner of Los Altos Parkway and Pyramid Highway, but developers said they will wait until the Sparks City Council sets clear guidelines before moving ahead. "Developer Roger Elton did not submit his proposal during a 24-hour gap in the city's casino moratorium Tuesday. The council Tuesday night reinstated for 90 days the moratorium on new casinos outside Victorian Square and the Interstate 80 corridor that don't have at least 200 hotel rooms. "Before the meeting, Mayor Geno Martini said he recently met with Elton's representative for the proposed Los Altos retail and casino development and told him he does not support a casino without a hotel for the 10-acre site. "…Martini said he was told the plans would not be submitted for months but was unsure whether a hotel would be included. "…Elton plans a variety of large and small retail for the corner. He had a casino in the plans but withdrew it when Sparks enacted the moratorium in April 2004 because he didn't want the entire project delayed, a spokesman said. "…Elton is considering relocating the gambling license from the closed Reno Turf Club for the project, he said…" |
