Southwest Casino's Colorado deal approved

CRIPPLE CREEK, Colorado – As reported by the Colorado Gazette: "The Colorado Gaming Commission gave its nod Thursday to the purchase of two Cripple Creek casinos by a Minneapolis-based company that already owns three gambling halls in the mountain town.

"The commission agreed to issue two new licenses to Southwest Casino Corp. so it can operate the Double Eagle Hotel and Casino and Gold Creek Casino, spokesman Don Burmania said.

"Because state law doesn't allow a company to own more than three casinos, Southwest must surrender two other licenses — those of Gold Diggers and Uncle Sam's casinos. It also owns the Gold Rush Hotel & Casino.

"…Southwest plans to pay $23.6 million for the two casinos, an acquisition that will make the company the dominant operator in Cripple Creek…"
