Southern Baptists Won't Track Down Gaming Machines

SOUTH CAROLINA – As reported by the State: "The South Carolina Baptist Convention will not be directly involved with SLED in targeting illegal video gaming machines, officials from the Convention said.

"A statement released Thursday counters previous reports the religious organization — the largest in South Carolina — would help the State Law Enforcement Division as it enforces state laws against electronic gaming.

"…The Convention is definitely opposed to gambling and supports law enforcement, Driggers said, but "'e are not in the business of law enforcement or regulating the law.'

"A Convention representative said last week that Southern Baptists were to begin reporting illegal video machines to the Convention's offices, which would forward information to SLED.

"Convention official Joe Mack said the denomination would use its Web site to offer photographs of machines to help Southern Baptists identify suspected illegal gaming devices…"
