South Korea's Casino Godfather Passes Away

SOUTH KOREA – As reported by the Korea Times: "Chun Rak-won, the founder and chairman of South Korea's biggest casino chain Paradise Group passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 77 from a chronic illness.

"Chun, dubbed `the godfather of casino business', built his fortune after acquiring the country's foreigner-only casino, located at the Sheraton Grande Walkerhill Hotel in Seoul, in 1973 from the state-run Korea National Tourism Organization.

"He showed his interest in art education by establishing Kaywon School of Art and Design, an arts college, and Kaywon High School of Arts. Chun also contributed to social welfare through a number of nonprofit organizations he founded, including Paradise Welfare Foundation and Paradise Culture Foundation…"
