South Korea to Open Two New Casinos

SEOUL, South Korea – As reported by the Singapore Straits Times: "Even as Singapore deliberates over whether give the go-ahead for a casino, South Korea has moved aggressively to allow more gambling operators into the country to draw the tourist dollar.

"The Government has granted new licences to two new operators, one in the capital Seoul and the other in the southern city of Busan.

"…The new casinos will be open only to foreigners, with locals having access to only one casino at the northern Kangwon province, a four-hour drive from Seoul.

"Over the past 40 years, the government has kept a tight lid on the access by locals to casinos as they fear a backlash from church groups and community leaders who insist that gambling will seriously harm the nation…"
