South Korea May Ban Gambling in PC Rooms, Internet Cafes

SOUTH KOREA – As reported by the Korea Times: "PC rooms and Internet cafes may not be allowed to provide gambling or other betting services from September, while singing rooms may be barred from selling alcohol, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced yesterday.

"The ministry said the planned law revisions will be discussed with related industries and organizations this month and may be introduced to the National Assembly as early as June for passage before September.

"Under current laws concerning audio discs, videotapes and games, only the producers and selling agencies of gambling games are regulated.

"However, under the revision proposed by the ministry, even the distributors such as PC rooms will be regulated against offering gambling games, the ministry said…"
