South Florida thoroughbred racetracks to go head to head5 April 2013FLORIDA -- Much uncertainty abounds about thoroughbred racing in South Florida, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Gulfstream Park has decided to shift to all year racing beginning July 1, while Calder will also race year round meaning no more opening or closing days, the report explained. It remains to be seen whether punters will support two racetracks year round or whether there are sufficient horses even to staff them, before the question of the economic outcomes of competition in such close geographic proximity is raised, the Sun-Sentinel report explained. |
