South Carolina Officials Propose Casino Boat Deal12 July 2004MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina – As reported by the Myrtle Beach News: "Horry County officials hope a proposed deal with gambling operators will cool the debate over casino boats operating in the waters off Little River. "SunCruz Casinos has agreed to pay $2 per passenger for the first year and $3 in future years. Councilman Harold Worley, who represents Little River, said he's working to persuade Southern Elegance, which operates another boat from the Little River waterfront. He said the thousands of casino boat passengers put an added burden on Little River and county authorities, and it's only right the boats should pay. "…In return, the county would allow SunCruz and Southern Elegance to substitute larger boats for their standard vessels, as long as the number of passengers is not increased. Also, Worley said, he will no longer threaten to shut down the boats. "…But Southern Elegance's marketing director, Joe Telesco, said he is upset because SunCruz and Worley worked out the deal before bringing it to Southern Elegance…" |
