South Carolina court rules against video poker19 March 2007SOUTH CAROLINA --- As reported by the South Carolina State: "The S.C. Supreme Court this morning ruled that the Catawba Indian Tribe does not have the right to operate video poker on its reservation near Rock Hill. "The justices unanimously said a 1993 settlement agreement between the tribe and state would allow the devices on the reservation only if they were allowed under state law. Because the state banned video poker statewide in 2000, the tribe does not have the right to operate the games on its reservation, the court said. "Columbia attorney Dwight Drake, who represents the tribe, said this morning the tribe likely will appeal the video poker part of the ruling to the federal courts…" |
