South Carolina casino deal sent back

CONWAY, South Carolina – As reported by the Myrtle Beach Sun News: "Facing certain defeat, Horry County Council members who support a 10-year contract with the casino boat industry decided to send the proposal back to the drawing board Tuesday.

"A slim 6-5 majority was prepared to vote against the contract, which allows the gaming industry to expand its Little River gambling operations in exchange for paying about $1.37 million per year in boarding fees.

"The move throws county efforts at regulating casino boat gambling into uncertainty again, after more than two years of unfruitful negotiations. For the casino boats, it means continued operation with no county fees.

"The state's only two gambling boats operate out of Little River and attract about 275,000 visitors to the town waterfront each year. About 100 supporters of the boats packed the County Council chambers during the Tuesday meeting here…"
