South Carolina casino boat rumors disputed

SOUTH CAROLINA – As reported by the Myrtle Beach Sun News: "Recent reports that a third casino cruise ship may set up shop in Little River were 'bogus,' Horry County Council Chairwoman Liz Gilland said Tuesday.

"Councilman Harold Worley and County Attorney John Weaver said a businessman approached them Sept. 19 about creating a new casino boat operation.

"Weaver publicly announced the news to County Council that night before a crucial vote on regulating the gambling vessels.

"Gilland said Worley asked the man, David Hunt, to approach Weaver and that Hunt was never serious about starting up a new casino cruise.

"…Worley denied Gilland's accusation and said, as far as he knows, Hunt is still interested in creating a casino cruise in Little River. He also said Hunt would allow the county to tax any gambling proceeds.

"…A vessel owned by Hunt was docked at the Cricket Cove Marina at the time of the council meeting last month, though marina owners said there were no plans to start a gambling operation there…"
