COLUMBIA, South Carolina – As reported by the Charlotte Observer: "Judge Joseph Strickland will hear in two weeks the appeal of his ruling that the Catawba Indian Nation could begin offering video poker.

"The State of South Carolina had filed a motion Tuesday for him to reconsider his Dec. 13ruling that the tribe had the right to offer the gambling on its reservation about 10 miles south of Charlotte despite a statewide ban since 2000. Attorney General Henry McMaster argued in the motion that the 1993 land claim settlement between the Catawbas and the state and federal governments was not meant to allow the tribe to offer video poker…"
