South Australian Group Loses Pokie Case

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Advertiser: "A group of prominent SA sporting and legal identities has lost a $1 million court case against a Government-appointed high flyer involving a city nightclub and its poker machines.

"The legal dispute involves one of Adelaide's former top nightspots – the Planet – which was leased by a family company of Economic Development Board member and lawyer Fiona Roche to Players Pty Ltd.

"The directors of Players include former Adelaide Crows captain Chris McDermott and Australian Test cricket offspinner Tim May, Australian tennis player and current coach of Andre Agassi, Darren Cahill, and well-known lawyer Greg Griffin.

"The Supreme Court has ruled that Players' $1 million hotel and 40-poker machine licences – used at The Planet until 2004 – belonged to the Roches, as the property's owner…"
