South Africa's Casinos Clean Up24 January 2005SOUTH AFRICA – As reported by the Johannesburg Sunday Times: "South Africans gambled away R8.2-billion in the 12 months between March 2003 and March 2004, 89% of it going to casinos. "According to National Gambling Board statistics, the billions wagered included bets on horse racing and bingo. "'The gross gambling revenue, which is R8.2-billion, is the industry's financial turnover before government tax and other deductions are made,' explained the board's Michael Burns.
