South African Gambling Board Chief Grilled Over Salary

SOUTH AFRICA – As reported by the Bua News: "National Gambling Board chief executive officer Thibedi Majake was today grilled by MPs over his salary, which is higher than that of cabinet ministers.

"During the Gambling Board's annual report presentation to the Trade and Industry Portfolio Committee, Mr Majake disclosed that he earned close to R800 000 per annum.

"…In justifying his salary, Mr Majake said it was unfair to compare his salary to that of the president, as the head of state had several other benefits.

"'If you take into account the many other benefits which the president is entitled to, my salary is peanuts. The notion that by virtue of earning the same basic salary as that of the president one enjoys the same lifestyle as that of him is incorrect and should be debunked,' he said…"
