South African Court Commended for Gambling Conviction

SOUTH AFRICA – As reported by the (South Africa) Star: "A magistrate's court has been commended for convicting 16 women caught gambling with child-grant money.

"Last week's sentence brings to 27 the number of women the Malamulele Magistrate Court, in the Limpopo Province, has sentenced to three months' jail or fines of R1 500 each in connection with similar offences since October last year.

"…The rural women, whose ages range between 20 and 39, were sentenced last week for illegal gambling. They were arrested when they bet the money on card and dice games…"
