South African Cops Caught in Gambling Scam

SOUTH AFRICA – As reported by the Cape Argus: "Two former policemen have been jailed for long stretches by the Wynberg regional court for illegally confiscating gambling machines and trying to sell them.

"Sergeant John Thomas, 39, was sentenced to a total of 112 years on fraud, forgery and corruption convictions, but will serve 15, as magistrate Jackie Redelinghuys ruled the sentences will run concurrently.

"Thomas's colleague at Steenberg police station, Constable André John Lekas, 33, who was given a total of 28 years, will serve seven.

"Both were found guilty of four of 11 charges - fraud, forgery, corruption and defeating the ends of justice…"
