South African Businessman to Build Casino in India

2 February 2004

INDIA – As reported by the Silicon India: "A leading South African Indian businessman here has won a bid to build a casino complex in India's Sikkim state.

"Vivian Reddy, whose main Indian business partner is former cricketer Kapil Dev, was elated at the news that he and the Indian Royal Orchard Hotel Group have won the right to build a world-class 400-room hotel and casino, with an adjacent golf course, theme park and museum.

"…'Indians by nature love gambling. This has been proven in South Africa as well, where although they are a minority, Indians are among the strongest supporters of casinos,' Reddy earlier told IANS.

"…Reddy said the Sikkim development, set against a backdrop of scenic mountains, would become a major tourist attraction in the northeastern state…"
