Soaring costs hit Bahamas casino

BAHAMAS – As reported by the Bahama Journal: "Due to higher than expected construction and staff costs, the developers of the Four Seasons Resort at Emerald Bay, Exuma, have not realized a return on their investment, according to Deputy Director General of Tourism David Johnson.

"Mr. Johnson told the Journal the company's difficulties are due mainly to unexpectedly higher costs, a situation that the tourism official said could 'result in some difficulties ahead.'

"He insisted, however, that contrary to reports, he never said the resort was pulling out. He also insisted that the 'difficulties" he referred to are not imminent.'

"…Mr. Johnson said that the labour problem is actually a combination of problems – lack of interest in the hotel sector and insufficient numbers of workers…"
