Smoking Could Return Saskatchewan Bingo Hall

PRINCE ALBERT, Saskatchewan – As reported by the CBC: "Another First Nations facility that had been smoke-free could allow smoking again – the Lac La Ronge bingo hall. Smoking has been banned in all buildings on the Lac La Ronge Indian reserve for about a year, but according to the band, that resulted in a big drop in revenue for the bingo hall.

"So last weekend, with the approval of the band, the bingo hall allowed smoking again as an experiment. The number of customers went way up.

"Lac La Ronge Chief Tammy Cook-Searson says the band can no longer ignore the loss of revenue at the hall.

"…Council alone has authority over what happens on the reserve, she said…"
