Smoking ban to harm casino revenues

11 June 2010

MACAO -- The president of the American Gaming Association Frank Fahrenkopf has spoken at the 2010 Global Gaming Expo Asia of the relationship between smoking and revenue, The Macau Times.

Fahrenkopf estimated there might be more than a 20 percent fall in revenue if a smoking ban is introduced in Asia, the report quoted.

The estimate was made based on the revenue drop seen in US casinos when smoking bans were introduced, The Macau Times said.

Macau intends to band smoking in public places, but will make an exception to allow smoking areas in casinos, the report noted.
